Beck On Beans: Ekocups Organic Fair Trade Light Roast
Ekocups Organic Fair Trade Light Roast
Fragrance:
Milk chocolate aroma with some of the carbon of the roasty- you know, that roasty smell. :)
Flavor:
Sip starts full bodied, but hits brightly at the back of the tongue. The flavor of the roast is drowning out much of the flavor of the bean itself. Slight chocolate notes, but more like raw cocoa than processed chocolate. Tastes a little dusty.
If it tastes like dusty, raw cocoa... it screams for sugar and milk.
I’m hesitant to add things to my coffee unless I’m convinced it’s going to make the experience better. I will never add anything to coffee as a matter of course because I want to taste the complexities of the bean and the roast. You can’t taste a beautiful coffee bean in any beverage but coffee. I can add milk and sugar to anything.
After all this hesitancy, I bit the bullet and added the milk and sugar.
OMG. Y’ALL.
This tastes like the love child of a bright, acidic cup of coffee and the finest hot chocolate you’ve ever had. It’s the consistency of coffee with the acidic, bold flavor present, but it tastes like I’m drinking hot chocolate as well.
Very different experience from a cafe mocha.
It tastes decadent, but it isn’t.
I like it.
Recommended For:
- Additives in moderation. This is a blissful cup with just a touch of sugar and milk. I imagine it would be delicious topped with a bit of schlag or steamed half-and-half.
- Icing. It might get a slight bit more bitter, but with some milk and sugar, this would be lovely.
Not Recommended For:
- Drinking black. The ashy, dustiness of the flavor needs smoothing and refining.
- Drinking quickly. If you are only tasting the flavor as it enters your mouth and not taking the time to notice the aftertaste, you’re missing the best parts.
Would I buy again?
Yes. Especially if I was trying to replicate the K-cup version of a fancy espresso drink.
