BECK ON BEANS: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf House Blend Light Roast Coffee by COR.

Today’s contestant:

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf House Blend Light Roast Coffee by COR.

Fragrance:

Dump a container of high quality raw cocoa on some really verdant moss and you’ve got the smell of this coffee. I like it. πŸ™‚

Strength:

This reminds me of the strength of coffee I’d get in Italy or Spain. It tastes like a really great espresso Americano.  It would hold up to milk and sugar, but I wouldn’t add them.

Flavor:

I can tell that this coffee is just BARELY roasted. You can taste the fruity, green rawness of the beans. This isn’t a coffee for casual, Dunkin Donuts coffee milkshake drinkers. It’s complex in flavor and it tastes very young. Not everybody is into the taste of the coffee berries or the raw beans in their cups. It’s not what most people expect to taste in their diner cups or home brews.

I drank another coffee yesterday that was all about the taste of the roasting process. It was smoky, almost ashy, and very dark. That’s closer to what most people expect from an every-day coffee.

This is not that. If you like to taste the whole process, from bean to cup, this is a great cup to take you on that journey.

And I have a feeling I’m gonna bounce off the walls when I’m finished with it. πŸ™‚

Most folks don’t realize that lighter roasts have more caffeine because the roasting process kills some of the compound. Folks reaching for a French roast when they need a jolt are doing it all wrong.

This is your huckleberry for some pep in your step and a great sipping experience.

Recommended for:

1) Coffee snobs. Drink it black and taste the whole roasting process from plant to cup.

2) A great jolt of caffeine when you’re in a slump.

Not recommended for:

1) Additive heavy drinkers. This isn’t one you’ll want to dilute with cream and sugar. It’ll probably taste more like a really strong tea due to its green, fresh notes.

2) Evening consumption. This has got some serious caffeine.

Would I buy it again?

Absolutely. This is a great brew for easing into your day with the pleasant taste of cocoa and the sweetness of the young beans. By the time you’re finished savoring, you’ll have enough energy to tackle the morning’s tasks.
