BECK ON BEANS: Colombian Arabica by Tizano and Bonini

Image
Colombian Arabica by Tizano and Bonini   Fragrance:  Aroma is rich and chocolatey. Wet pine and sugar. It smells organic, like the coffee plant. Best smelling cup from this box yet. Flavor:  The flavor was totally surprising. It’s full-bodied and smooth on the entry, the roast dark enough to be complex but falling just shy of bitterness. It was already perfect, but then came the aftertaste. You’d never think a coffee this rich and roasted would leave behind a distinctly fruity flavor. It’s almost like I took a bite of watermelon after swallowing some dark chocolate.   If you touch this with cream and sugar, I’ll be mad at you. Evil coffee snob side eye in your face for even thinking about it.   Okay, no. You should drink your coffee however it is most enjoyable to you. There’s no bad way to drink good coffee and get that bad coffee down with whatever method is required.   Recommended for:   Sipping and savoring. Take your time with this one. It’s a jou...

Beck On Beans: Ekocups Organic Fair Trade Light Roast

Image
Ekocups Organic Fair Trade Light Roast Fragrance:  Milk chocolate aroma with some of the carbon of the roasty- you know, that roasty smell. :) Flavor:  Sip starts full bodied, but hits brightly at the back of the tongue.   The flavor of the roast is drowning out much of the flavor of the bean itself. Slight chocolate notes, but more like raw cocoa than processed chocolate. Tastes a little dusty.   If it tastes like dusty, raw cocoa... it screams for sugar and milk.   I’m hesitant to add things to my coffee unless I’m convinced it’s going to make the experience better. I will never add anything to coffee as a matter of course because I want to taste the complexities of the bean and the roast. You can’t taste a beautiful coffee bean in any beverage but coffee. I can add milk and sugar to anything.   After all this hesitancy, I bit the bullet and added the milk and sugar.   OMG.   Y’ALL. This tastes like the love child of a bright, acidic cup of coff...

BECK ON BEANS: Authentic Donut Shop Blend Original Dark Roast Coffee by Cor.

Authentic Donut Shop Blend Original Dark Roast Coffee by Cor   Fragrance: Verdant. Wet, charred wood and floral. There’s something hitting my nose the same way as sugar or rose or mint, but I can’t make it out and it’s VERY subtle. Tiny hint of chocolate.   Flavor:   Very mild start. The roast flavor is carbon heavy. Aftertaste leaves a spicy note, like cinnamon sticks and sugar.   And maybe a hint of licorice?? This is a very complex cup! Why are you calling this “Donut shop?” This is more like something someone picked in his back yard and brewed freshly for me!   I’m very impressed with these Cor products. They clearly know their coffee, but they’re trying to stay relevant to the masses by releasing “donut shop” type labels.   Recommended for:   Sipping and savoring. The aftertaste on this cup is more delightful than the sip itself!   This could easily be served as a dessert coffee black after a meal.   Drinking black. Granted, I didn’t tr...

BECK ON BEANS: Napoli Dark Roast (Made In Italy) by Tiziano Bonini.

Image
Napoli Dark Roast (Made In Italy) by Tiziano Bonini.   (In my grandmother-in-law’s favorite cup. She is fresh from the boat Italian, emigrated from Abruzzi. Natalina Pieranunzio Calmes. I adore her.)  Fragrance:  While brewing and in the cup, it smells like chopped artisanal dark chocolate with its rich and powdery aroma. You know what I’m talking about, right?? That one place where everybody has tattoos and gauges and nerds out on making weird and wonderful fresh chocolate creations? Hipster food hall chocolate. That. And I’m here for it. I’m so right here.   Flavor:  First sip tasted like carbon (the dark roast) with a beautiful dark chocolate and earthy aftertaste- like the beans were grown in black soil. I could be wrong about that, but that’s the image that came to mind. ðŸ¤ª *runs off to google coffee growing soil*   Enjoyment Tip:  I realized that if you go wine aficionado on it and aerate your sips, the carbon flavor ...

BECK ON BEANS: Hurricane Coffee Category 5 French Roast by Cor.

Image
TODAY'S BEAN: Hurricane Coffee Category 5 French Roast by Cor Fragrance: Smells like a Hershey bar sitting in a wet ash tray. There’s a citrus note to the fragrance, but it seems almost medicinal. Flavor:  I tried. After a few sips, I absolutely had to add cream and sugar.   It tasted like all bitterness and artificial fruit. The cream and sugar cut the bitterness a bit, but now it just tastes like a very strong, over-steeped tea. It has a verdant flavor, almost minty.   This is the strangest cup of coffee I’ve had in a long time.   Recommended for:   Tea drinkers. Cream and sugar this baby and you’ll barely know the difference. Additives. As stated above. I couldn’t take it black. It might hold up well to icing.   Not recommended for:   Drinking black. Sipping and savoring.   Would I buy this again?   No. I will actively avoid this coffee. No more than ten sips in and it’s already tearing ...
